Other Summers
Posted: August 4th, 2009 | Filed under: Sketches in Time and SpaceApparently Complex Fields takes summers off. The past three months have seen me offline for the most part, my fingers clutching at drywall and my own sweaty forehead. More stories to tell about this when time allows, but for now I offer a peek out one odd porthole of my rickety ship.
During brief breaks from the duststorm of renovation, I could check email or the dreaded Facebook on my meager data-phone device. Like many of you, my Facebook deck is stacked full of people from my hometown and high school days, people I haven’t seen in almost 20 years, who are up to very interesting and clever exploits in the town I might have continued to call home.
The relentless stream of unfiltered Facebook status updates, rendered across two square inches of LCD space as I caught my breath from time to time, gave me a glimpse into a summer I might have had. Surprising to me was that just about every post seemed to be about THE POOL. I haven’t visited a swimming pool in years (not out of principle or fear, mind you), but THE POOL seems to be a definitive part of the summers of my former classmates. Here, unfiltered for you, is a list of pool-related updates from my hardworking and intelligent former peers, who reside and work in Southerndom, all of which took place during my sojourn in the land of home-improvement this summer:
Trying to get 4 kids to agree on either the movies or the pool. Like trying to herd cats!
I am at Mom’s until tomorrow morning. Just hanging by the pool today if you want to stop by.

thinks it is hilarious that a person would choose to sit by the pool right where the kids come down off the slide and complain when they get wet. Some people have not common sense.
Order of the day: laundry, clean house, Ice Age III, Austin to play golf with his dad, grocery store, pool, and RELAX. Yes, I can relax through this busy schedule because the kids will have fun. (And I will too!)
school day friends are pool day friends!!
Karen, who all is in for the pool tomorrow?

Went to pool yesterday with thinksmart by dr. Robert restek and sirens of titan by vonnegut. Only finished one.
